Bark Control Dog Training Collars

As the name implies, a bark control dog training collar is used to prevent your dog from excessive barking. These collars emit a shock or strong mist that your dog doesn't like. This correction is administered when a vibration from your dog's throat is created during barking. Your dog soon learns by association that barking creates this consequence and the unwanted behavior stops.

Other no bark collars actually modify the dog’s behavior and teach the dog not to bark. These behavior modification collars are preferred, as the goal for all dog owners is to teach their dog not to bark and to be able to remove the collar.

Some no bark collars are rechargeable, some are waterproof, and some others have replaceable batteries. Most of the quality no bark collars offered today are offered by either Innotek or PetSafe. The Innotek no bark collars are advanced correction and behavior modification collars. The PetSafe no bark collars are correction only.

There are some people who feel that the shock collar is inhumane to treat the animals that way. But the collar is a very effective way to train and teach our pets. There are two key features of this collar. The first is a mild warning sensation triggered by your dog’s first bark. The second feature occurs when your dog barks again within 30 seconds of the first bark. This will be the first and lowest level of correction. There are a total of 6 levels of correction that are triggered by your dog’s successive barks.

Each successive bark will increase the correction level if the bark is within 30 seconds of the previous bark. If your dog does not bark for at least 30 seconds the receiver resets itself. Along with each correction there will be an audible beep.

As a built-in safety feature, when your dog barks 15 times or more in a 50 second period the collar will automatically shut off for a period of 3 minutes.

The new type of collars use Citronella sprays to train the dog. The Citronella spray dog training collars allow the user to train their dogs without the electric shock treatment of the older models. Basically a reservoir filled with citronella is placed on the front of the collar.

The Citronella no bark collar works by spraying in front of his nose and face when a sensor or microphone detects the barking and is triggered. By thus interrupting your pet's barking consistently, your pet will come to associate being sprayed with his barking behavior.

With a remote citronella training collar the owner has a hand-held remote transmitter with which he can deliver a short or slightly longer burst of citronella as the situation or dog's personality and response dictates. Of course with the remote version, your timing is critical. In order to avoid confusing your dog, it must only be used during the actual barking. Some units even have a reward tone to reinforce desirable behavior.

The citronella no bark collar is designed to position the spray in front of the nose and not directly in the face or eyes. Usually the citronella is only a small percentage of the solution or it is buffered so that it won't be an irritant to the eyes or skin.

Citronella is a natural, nontoxic oil that has been used around humans and animals throughout history, although some people can be allergic.
